Oh my god I had to laugh when i saw this article
. I was going to write a post earlier today about things that annoy me, and the current biggest annoyance is the stupid horrible Toyota "Saved By Zero" ad campaign. I swear to god it's on during every commercial break all day on Q104.3. I've considered stopping listening to the radio entirely to just not have to hear it. Then I thought it was amusing that Jared, too, found it annoying. Well, apparently there are TONS of people who feel the same way! I might just have to join the Facebook group - lol.
Now that I seem to have started the "things that annoy me" post, the second big one is how yahoo mail suddenly went ad-happy. A constantly refreshing sidebar, text ads everywhere, and a big full page ad when a mailbox is empty. I purposely leave mail in my inbox to not deal with it. Fortunately I use Mail on my Mac at home to check email, but at work i use the yahoo web mail. oh well. At least it's not AOL :-P

I really have to thank other drivers for amusing me on my otherwise boring commute. Today's gem? The pink circular bumper sticker with a little white gas pump that read "Gas Prices Stink." Not all that amusing until it's on the back of a HUMMER.
lol. people are silly.

I am normally not up on the whole moovies on the internets business, but thanks to becca I managed to catch these gems. I don't even know how to describe it, other than to say that anybody who makes a movie involving Steely Dan beating up the Eagles is teh awesome. And Joe has very little idea who these musicians are, but he got a kick out of the final episode detailing the history of "footloose"
A must see!

Oh, and to supplement my last post, "Supernatural Superserious" would make an excellent TV show theme (something about awkward teens or college kids), and Becca, my most awesomest friend ever, got tickets on pre-sale today for R.E.M. at MSG in June. I didn't even know they were on sale! God bless her :) We have floor seats!
|Cue fangirl squeal...
After three and a half years, R.E.M. finally released a new album! Being the good little fangirl I am, I rushed off to Best Buy at lunch today to get my copy.
It's disappointingly short (at just shy of 35 minutes), but in a way that keeps with the rapid, upbeat pace. I certainly need to give it another few listens before i figure out where it falls in my all-time preference list, but here are some of my first impressions about particular songs:( details after the cut...Collapse )
It's natural to feel a little disappointed with their last few albums if you're expecting another Automatic for the People
, but at the same time I feel like it's a case of the critics ruling the masses. The last album only sold 300,000 copies, and was generally panned by critics, but I found it connected so perfectly with me at that point in my life that it didnt leave my car CD player for MONTHS. While the current CD may be "better" I have to yet to see if it will click with me in the way that Around the Sun
R.E.M. continues to be a band that I will buy actual CD's from. I honestly cannot remember the last album I bought. I've bought singles here and there on iTunes, and downloaded music through eMusic, but the last CD i bought may have been R.E.M.'s in October 2004. Kinda scary!

just wanted to update real quickly to let everyone know my family and I are doing all right. Tuesday night I went to my parents' house, picking my brother up from the bus along the way. We spent the night, and tried to help out around the house as much as possible yesterday by going shopping, doing laundry and dishes, and helping mom pick out flowers for this weekend.
The viewings will be on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Rezem Funeral Home on Cranbury Road in East Brunswick, and the Funeral will be a brief service at Rezem at 9:30am on Saturday, followed by the burial in St Vladimir's Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Jackson, NJ. My parents will be hosting lunch afterward.
Naturally I'm dreading friday, but in a strange way looking forward to Saturday. My grandmother is being buried next to my grandfather, who died a few years before i was born. I've never been to his grave. I think my great-grandfather (the one who came over from Russia) and my grandfather's brother are there, too. I feel like i get to introduce myself in a way... Current Mood: somber

That inevitable day came a little sooner than expected. My grandma passed away this morning peacefully, surrounded by family. She will be dearly, dearly missed. Current Mood: melancholy

This year I've been busy!
In November on a flight to Colorado Springs, I stole the emergency flight information card (-40 points). In February I bought porn for xwhitespiderx (10 points). In September I ruled Canada as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). Last Friday I got in line at the supermarket at the same time as someone else and I didn't yield (-8 points). Last month I didn't flush (-1 points).
Overall, I've been nice (661 points). For Christmas I deserve a Lego set!

|There's a what in the what now?
Right before i left for lunch, the mayor was in here complaining about something preventing people from getting in to pay taxes on the last day before the deadline. Then as i leave for lunch around 11:30, i see that a car is blocking one of the roadways going to the front of the building. I decided to leave my car in the parking lot, lest i not be able to get back in. Took a walk instead.
Well, i see cop cars, trucks, fire cars, and then the Passaic County Bomb squad go by. uhhh....
On my way back in, i ask someone what's going on. Apparently there was a big rock brought in for the base of a statue out front. And it had a wire hanging out of it. They're thinking explosives! Yay. I think I'm being offered the chance to go home, and I'm going to take it!!

|Couldn't be happier...
EEEEEEEEEeeeeeee seeing Wicked tonight! Sooooooooooo excited. Can you tell? LOL.
I've been listening to it in the car a lot lately and just love love LOVE the music. We have super fabulous seats in the second row of the Mezzanine, on the aisle. I can't WAIT. GAH! One more hour at work... Fortunately I've been busy til this point and the day has gone quickly. I just finished up my work for my boss, who just left for the day, and now I'm going batty.
I think I'll go look up the bus schedule. I had originally thought about driving in, but there aren't any cheap lots anywhere above 23rd St (may fave is one for $18 - still not cheap, but about the same as 2 round trip bus tickets, counting the $6 Tunnel Toll). And the show runs until about 10:45, meaning we theoretically could get the 11:10 home and be home before midnight. If i drove in, it would probably take til after 11 to get my car anyway (those decks are SO SLOW especially when a lot of people come to get their cars at the same time). And it'd only be about a 5-10 minute shorter drive.
So yeah, I think I may have made up my mind :-P

|A Wrinkle in Time
Oh, this is sad :-(http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/books/09/07/obit.lengle.ap/index.html
Madeleine L'Engle died. She was one of my favorite authors as a kid, and my first taste of sci-fi/fantasy. I think I may have to go back and read those books when I'm done with Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" Trilogy. Currently only about a chapter into Book 1, so it might be a while. It's nice to be reading again, though, after finishing Harry Potter weeks ago.
